The Messerschmitt BF-109 served as the primary single-seat fighter for the German Luftwaffe for almost ten years. It is estimated that over 33,000 units of this aircraft were manufactured from 1936 until the conclusion of World War II. Throughout the conflict, the BF-109 was deployed on every front where the Luftwaffe participated. Its initial combat experience occurred during the Spanish Civil War, where it demonstrated its effectiveness against the Russian fighters of the Republican forces. The BF-109 was regarded as a superb fighter due to its excellent handling and outstanding low-speed control response. Production of the BF-109 continued in significant numbers until the war's end in 1945. For Ages 14+
